Andrew Short to Race 10th Annual Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open

AURORA, Ill. (September 7, 2007) – The Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open announced today that Honda’s Andrew Short, who is a championship contender in this year’s AMA Motocross class, will compete at this year’s 10th Annual race inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena October 12-14.

At the MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2005 Short finished 12-1, which was good for fifth overall, in the lites class marking his best Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open finish to date.

“Back in 2005 I had a blast racing at the U.S. Open,” said Short. “I love the track because I perform better on tighter courses. I grew up racing amateur supercross races Colorado, and the tracks were all very tight. I raced 50s, 60’s 80’s and big bikes on that circuit, so I am used to technical stuff. I am able to carry a lot of speed through the tight corners. I’m going to the U.S. Open to race; that is what I like to do – race.”

“The race has a much more laid back atmosphere because you can just go for broke out there,” added Short. “There is not a points race to worry about, so we can focus on one race with one huge purse. The other great thing about the event is that it’s held inside the MGM Grand where we all stay.”

Short entered his first Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites season in 2001 and quickly moved up the ranks, winning the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout twice before moving to the premier AMA Supercross class. In 2006, he finished second overall in the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites, and in 2005, he finished second in AMA Motocross Lites competition.
