LAS VEGAS - MGM MIRAGE set odds earlier today for the 2004 Maxxis U.S. Open, "The World's Richest Motorcycle Race," promoted by Clear Channel Entertainment - Motor Sports and defending champion Chad Reed is the early favorite at 8/5. The event returns to MGM Grand this weekend, Oct. 8-10, for the seventh consecutive year in association with MGM Grand.
A collection of the greatest motocross athletes from arenacross and supercross will chase the $100,000 first-place prize during the two days of racing. The famed U.S. Open has seen five winners in six years. They include 2003 Champion Chad Reed, Mike LaRocco, Jeff Emig, Ricky Carmichael and Damon Huffman.
Attractions during the weekend include the Alpine Stars 250cc Open Class, 85cc Mini Invitational, KTM Jr. World Finals and Pro-Circuit 125cc race. On Sunday, Oct. 10, the third annual Amateur Arenacross World Finals will be staged.
The overall champion will be determined by the highest cumulative point total for the two-day event. Wagers will be accepted only on the riders and will not be accepted on teams or individual bikes. The odds to win the 2004 Maxxis U.S. Open are as follows:
