AURORA, Ill. (September 23, 2004) - Clear Channel Entertainment’s Motor Sports division announced today that Mike LaRocco, of South Bend, Ind., will race the seventh-annual Maxxis U.S. Open at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas October 8 & 9.
LaRocco, 33, won the U.S. Open in 2002, besting two-time defending champion Ricky Carmichael. This year LaRocco captured his first 250cc supercross hometown win at Indianapolis’ RCA Dome. LaRocco has competed in every U.S. Open and has finished in the top five in all but one race.
“Every year I look forward to racing inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena,” said LaRocco. “The purse is huge and the track suits my riding style well. If I can get my starts down, I may walk away with $100,000 like I did in 2002.”
Riders confirmed to compete in the 2004 Maxxis U.S. Open include defending and current THQ AMA Supercross Series champion Chad Reed, two-time U.S. Open champion, action sports superstar Travis Pastrana, THQ AMA Supercross Series runner-up Kevin Windham and all-time AMA national championship holder Ricky Carmichael.
