AURORA, Ill. (August 4, 2004) - Clear Channel Entertainment’s
Motor Sports division announced today that Yamaha’s Chad
Reed, of Dade City, Fla., entered the starting grid for the
seventh-annual Maxxis U.S. Open at the MGM Grand Garden Arena
in Las Vegas October 8 & 9.
Reed, 22, earned his first Maxxis U.S. Open championship in
2003, winning both nights of racing while clinching the championship
in front of a sold-out Saturday night crowd. The Australia-native
won the THQ World Supercross GP championship in 2003 and captured
the THQ AMA Supercross Series championship in 2004. Reed is
the only rider who has had recent success beating supercross
standout Ricky Carmichael. In 2003, he won nine main events,
including a six-race win streak over Carmichael at the end
of the season.
“
I couldn’t be more excited to race against Carmichael
and the rest of the field at the MGM,” said Reed. “I
have been looking forward to racing against him (Carmichael)
since the start of the supercross season. He’s one of
the most talented riders out there, and I know I am going to
be on it that weekend.”
In addition to defending Maxxis U.S. Open champion and current
THQ AMA Supercross Series champion Chad Reed, other invited
riders for the seventh-annual Maxxis U.S. Open include all-time
AMA national championship holder Ricky Carmichael, action sports
superstar Travis Pastrana and up-and-coming superstar and reigning
125cc Eastern Regional THQ AMA Supercross Series champion James
Stewart. Veteran Mike LaRocco, who won the 2002 U.S. Open,
has also been invited to compete in this prestigious event.
