Josh Grant Interview
By Mike Farber (Racer X Brand Manager)
Last year, Josh Grant raced the US Open for the first time in his career. How did he finish? Well, he swept both nights in the Lites class in convincing style. I ran into Josh this weekend and talk to him about defending his title this year.
Josh, are you going to compete in the Rockstar Energy Drink US Open this year?
I would really like to but it just depends how I feel when the race comes up.
What do you think about the Lites and Supercross riders going for the overall this year?
I think it’s awesome to have a chance to compete with Ricky and James on a smaller bike.
What bike will have the advantage on a smaller track like this?
I think the 250f bike is the way to go. They are lighter so it’s easier to get out of the turns quicker and if it’s a short start then the 450’s won’t kill us.
This year is the 10th anniversary, how many have you participated in?
Believe it or not, last year was the first time I’ve ridden there and I won the Lites class. It felt so good winning that race in Vegas. It was very special to me because of all the big names that have won that race and now my name is in the record book too.
What do you think of the format last year with the Trifecta?
I thought it was a cool concept but I never really gave it too much thought because the Lites weren’t eligible for the bonuses. I guess this year we will be eligible?
Yes you will
That’s awesome! I guess, I’ll just have to go out there and pin it for a lap each night.
Do you think its cool having different tracks every night?
It was different and I thought it was very cool.
Why do you think the fans should come and check out this race?
It such a fun race to come too. The atmosphere is great and it’s in Vegas. They say the US Open is a “HUGE” party! I’m sure it has something to do with the race being in Vegas. How do you feel about it?I’m not much of a partier on race weekend but there are a lot of people having fun on that weekend.
What makes it so different from the Supercross Finals that is held in Vegas?
The racing is much tighter with the smaller tracks so there’s a lot more contact. Plus, it’s a two-night event so you have to get good starts and put your head down and ride hard.
Any final notes for the fans?
Well, if I was a fan, I would defiantly come out to watch this one especially since the Lites and the Supercross class are racing together.
Thanks Josh
It was good talking to you Fubar.
