Billy Laninovich Interview
By Mike Farber (Racer X Brand Manager)

When you talk about guys who can “whip” a bike the first name that has to come to mind is Billy Laninovich. This kid can throw it sideways and he’s not to bad of a racer either. Billy was a mini prodigy and KTM was the first factory to pick him up. After a few years with them he moved over to the Sobe/Samsung Honda team. Billy has had several podium finishes in supercross and everything finally came together in San Francisco a few years back to win his first and only Lites supercross. Let’s see what Billy’s plans are for the US Open this year.

Billy are you going to compete in the Rockstar Energy Drink US Open this year?

I would love to and I also heard it was an open class this year.

What do you think about the open class? Do you think it’s an advantage or disadvantage riding a Lites bike?

It might be a disadvantage off the start but I think it will be an advantage on the track.

This year is the 10th anniversary, how many have you participated in?

I raced in the 80 class the first year they had the Open in 1998. I won the first night but the next night I was in third and crashed over the finish line and broke my leg.

What did you think of the format with the Trifecta?

I think it’s awesome but you have a lot of fast guys out there.

Do you like having different tracks every night?

I like it because it’s like going to two races. Plus, you don’t get bored riding the same track each night.

Why do you think fans should come and check out this race?

Who doesn’t like going to Vegas?

They say the US Open is a “HUGE” party! I’m sure it has something to do with the race being held in Vegas. How do you feel about it?

It’s just a really cool atmosphere at the MGM. Plus, you never know who you are going to see walking around the casino.

What makes it so different from the Supercross Finals also held in Vegas?

It’s just different all together. It’s in the MGM, the fans are closer, and the track is tighter.

Any final notes for the fans?

Bring the family out to the race and have a good time.
