Troy Adams Interview By Mike Farber (Racer X Brand Manager)
Troy Adams hails from the state of Florida but unlike his fellow competitors he has taken the long road to get where he is today. After being a top amateur prospect, Troy entered the pro ranks and was overlooked by a lot of teams. WBR Kawasaki gave him his first chance and a few years later he ended up on the very powerful Monster/Pro Circuit team. After leaving Pro Circuit, Troy was hired by the Rockstar Suzuki team. Troy realized that he was too big to ride the Lites class so he moved up to the 450 class. He has raced the US Open a few times and wants to be competitive this year in the big class. Let’s see what he has to say about the US Open.
Troy are you going to compete in the Rockstar Energy Drink US Open this year?
TA: I’m really looking forward to it and I want to try it in the 450 class this year. It’s always been something that I wanted to do and maybe I can grab some of that big purse.
You have raced the US Open before in the Lites class. What was your best finish?
My best finish was a second. This past year didn’t go very good for me because I was on a new bike and I didn’t have much seat time on it.
This year is the 10th anniversary, how many have you participated in?
I started racing the US Open in 2003 and I have raced every year since then.
What do you think of the format last year with the Trifecta?
I thought it was awesome especially when DV did his goon-ride. I also thought it brought a lot to the program when those guys tried to throw down a fast time and go for the money. I can’t wait until I have a chance to do it.
Did you like having different tracks every night?
I thought it was really cool with reversing the tracks. It reminded of being at home when we practice. You get use to going one way then ride the other way. It separates the good riders who can get used to a track really quickly.
Why do you think the fans should come and check out this race?
I think the fans really get their money’s worth at this race. The racing is fast and tight and you get to see all the top guys. It’s unlike a supercross because you’re so close to the riders.
They say the US Open is a “HUGE” party! I’m sure it has something to do with the race being in Vegas. How do you feel about it?
Actually, I’m usually too tired to go out after a race (laughs) but I hear all the stories in the morning. It’s Vegas and there are plenty of things to do when you’re there. I always have a good time with my family and girlfriend when we go to the US Open.
What makes it so different from the Supercross Finals that is held in Vegas?
I think it’s different because you are in the heart of Vegas. You race at the MGM and there’s such a history with all the fights and the events that happens in the casino. Plus, everyone stays there and you’re out walking around and you never know who you’re going to see.
Any final notes for the fans?
I hope everyone comes out and watches me race my first 450 supercross event.
